Scott Hushelpeck, Texarkana, TX
Hailing from Texarkana, Texas, is Scott Hushelpeck, this month's Young Racers' Club winner! Scott reports that he has been going to races at the area dirt tracks his whole life to watch his dad race. "When I was old enough, I started helping in the pits, fueling the car and doing air pressure. The more I helped the more I learned," says the 20 year old. After years of being in the pits, when he turned 15 he asked for his own car. His parents responded by buying him a Sim's Limited Modified. In his first year of racing, he placed Second in track points and Fifth in the Sunday Series at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana. He was also crowned Sim's National Rookie of the Year after finishing 15th in the nation, earning the hard charger award and notching a Third in the Race of Champions event at Champion Park Speedway in Minden, Louisiana.
After a year of racing the Limited Modified, Scott decided that he wanted to move up to the IMCA modified class. "My first year was a learning experience in the IMCA class." It may have been a learning experience, but by age 17 he had his first championship at 67 Speedway in Mandeville, Arkansas. That was followed by a Third in track points at Arkansas Super Speedway in 2007. In 2008, he took a year off to build a new car. Those efforts were rewarded with several big wins and a second track championship at 67 Speedway.
Scott's one heck of a racer, but he knows he can't do it alone. "I want to thank my parents and my sister for all their support and financial help. My mom, she is my biggest fan. If it wasn't for their help, I wouldn't be able to do what I love and that's race!"
Well, Scott, congrats on being the Young Racers' Club winner for August. And with that congrats comes a $250 gift certificate from our good friends at TCI. Enjoy!
