The Lernerville Speedway was unique in that it didn’t have walls or guard rails around the turns and back stretch and instead had sloped run-off areas. This allows the drivers to make a mistake, recover and rejoin the race without a caution or damage to the car, most of the time. I wish this design could be copied at more tracks around the country. It sure worked well here. I observed quite a few cars that over-cooked it going into Turn 1, running high and going off the top of Turn 2 only to return moments later losing just a few positions.
