Here is the sketch I drew up to provide the promoters of West Virginia Motor Speedway with some ideas for the construction of their new track layout. There are three keys to the success of this design: 1) The track length should be about 3⁄8-mile to limit top speed and to enhance the viewing by the spectators. 2) The track banking angle should be in two stages, the bottom half being around 8 degrees and the top half around 12 degrees. As time goes on, the angles can be adjusted to regulate the speed of each to equalize the two. 3) The inside shape of the track needs to be different than the outside to enhance passing and maneuvering.
