For the past year this space was occupied by John Gibson's "From the Driver's Seat" column. With the 2009 USAR Pro Cup season winding down, John is no longer with us here at Circle Track. As he's off to pursue other opportunities, we wish him the best of luck both on and off the track.
From here on out we will be dedicating this space, the last editorial page in each issue, to a new monthly column that will investigate emerging technologies, trends, and issues facing the world of motorsports. No one segment of our industry will be excluded from tracks to teams to tech, we'll tackle it here.
We will also be inviting guest columnists in to offer their viewpoints and opinions on these subjects. These columnists will be industry experts with their own unique view of racing and its future. The first full "Takin' the Green" column will hit the pages of Circle Track in the February issue. So be on the lookout for it.
However, in the meantime, we want to draw your attention to the Circle Track website. We've made some significant improvements to the site and added a new section called Multimedia under the main navigation bar. This Multimedia section of www.circletrack.com has been added as an interactive section of our website that will enhance your online car racing experience.
The cornerstone of the new Multimedia section can be found under the Racing Calculators tab. Several issues ago, Bob Bolles's "Track Tech Q&A" column offered up a Microsoft Excel computer program that would calculate Metric Four Link Roll Center to any Circle Track reader who sent him an email. Well, Bob's email box is still jammed full with all of the requests. We're talking hundreds upon hundreds of emails. The response was so great, in fact, that we decided to put the calculator up on the internet in our new Multimedia section.
So, now you can head on over to the website and click on the Multimedia tab and then on the Racing Calculators tab and download the calculator at your convenience.
Bob's Metric Four Link Roll Center calculator.
But that's not the best news. Bob has four other calculators that we are going to make available on the website-free of charge. There's a Final Gear Ratio Caluclator, one that will calculate your Torsion Bar Rate, an invaluable Tire Temperature/Pressure Calculator, and the ever important Tire Stagger Calculator. These four calculators will be available (say it again) free of charge in the Multimedia section of the website by the time you read this.
If that's not enough, in the Multimedia section of the site you will also find fun and educational racing videos from our various oval track project car builds as well as downloadable Circle Track themed wallpapers for your computer.
And incidentally if you're interested in having your own racing video on www.circletrack.com you can! Just send us a DVD with the video on it along with your name and mailing address. You will be required to sign a release and the disk will become the property of Source Interlink Media. Videos must be produced by the racer's family, friends, or team. Videos produced by production companies are not eligible and publication of any video is at the sole discretion of the Circle Track staff.
If you have any questions regarding getting your own racing video on Circle Track's website just email Editor Rob at firstname.lastname@example.org. Now fire up that computer and head on over to www.circletrack.com and enjoy the new upgrades.
