MSD's Extreme Output HEI features an ignition module capable of producing 20 amps to drive the coil. The engineers designed a new coil that can deliver over 100 millijoules of energy across the plug gap. The cap is molded from DuPont Rynite, which has high dielectric properties. The cap must be used in order to fit the coil, but it can still be installed on factory distributor housings.
