Ferrea is pushing the limits in lightweight valvetrain components with its hollow-stem valves and CNC lifters. The valves come in a variety of sizes and are stainless steel. Ferrea claims they are 20 percent lighter than comparable valves, which can mean a difference of 300 to 400 rpm on the track when used in conjunction with Ferrea's lightweight lifters. The solid lifters are forged and CNC-machined. They are said to be 25 percent lighter than the stock units they replace.

Unless you are a regular reader of Circle Track, you've probably never heard of Hightower Racing Transmissions, a small shop in tiny Travelers Rest, South Carolina. But Johnny Hightower is one of the most innovative racers you will ever meet, and he came to PRI with a big surprise. His Hightower Direct Connect Shifter bolts to a modified Jerico transmission and moves the shifter location 3 to 5 inches toward the center of the car. The change allows the driver to be moved to a safer location inboard or makes room for oil lines. It also is fully enclosed to keep out dirt and debris.
