When a person evaluates the money and the capital required to keep a race team operating, the race shop is the single biggest expenditure. A well-equipped shop costs beaucoup dollars, and the actual cost of a race car is minor compared to the equipment needed to keep it racing.

Circle Track visited Loren Spangler's shop in Chatsworth, California, to see what shop must-haves are required to keep a high-performance team rolling on a realistic budget. Spangler Racing competes full-time in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series and prepares cars for other race teams (part-time) in Southern California as well.

Racing is a full-time business for Keith and Loren, and it's also how they make a living. His shop is above average for many Saturday-night racers, with its wide assortment of machining equipment and three generations worth of accumulating tools, but we found it very useful for this photo spread of shop must-haves.
