The first step to measuring rod bolt stretch is to set the gauge with the bolt in a relaxed state. You can’t tell from this photo but the cap bolt is loose in the rod. You can also have the bolt completely out of the rod if that’s easier for you. With the gauge in place, zero out the face on the dial indicator. View Related Article
