GM Opens Wind Tunnel
for Private Testing, Warren, MI
For the first time, General Motors is opening the doors to its Aerodynamics Laboratory, making wind-tunnel testing available to approved private racing teams. The facility is located at GM's Technical Center in Warren, Michigan.
ISCARS New Body, Orlando, FL
It was a big PRI Show for the International Sport Compact Auto Racing Series (ISCARS) DASH Touring Series sanctioned by the American Speed Association (ASA) as it unveiled its new sport compact body style car. The new Honda Accord-style car is complete with flared fenders and a wing on the rear deck that fits ISCARS' template of affordability and cool looks. It also features a Honda four-cylinder, fuel-injected engine which offers an affordable and efficient engine alternative. With the unveiling of the new fuel-injected car, series President Randy Claypoole said that the current chassis and the V-6 engine will remain eligible in the series. ASA Late Model Muscle, Lexington, MI
At the PRI show in December, the ASA Late Model Series Presented by GM Performance Parts announced a brand-new look for its 2010 Challenge Division season. Beginning at the first race of the season on March 27 at New Smyrna Speedway, the ASA Late Model Series will utilize only 2010 Ford Mustangs and 2010 Chevy Camaros. The cars will remain tube frame race cars underneath but their skins will clearly reflect the "new American muscle" coming out of Detroit. After comprehensive fundraising efforts conducted during the first five years of its existence, former NASCAR driver Ernie Irvan's Race2Safety Foundation made its first major presentation of more than 3,000 child bicycle safety helmets to Boys & Girls Clubs of America locations in the Southeast, as well as to a pair of organizations that also promotes brain injury awareness and prevention with a special focus on kids. Race2Safety conducted helmet presentations to Boys & Girls Clubs in Atlanta; Charleston, S.C.; Columbia, S.C.; and the Charlotte, N.C. area. The mission of Race2Safety is to make a positive difference in the lives of men, women, and children across America by informing and educating them about the latest transportation-related head protection equipment and technologies and actively promoting the everyday use of such equipment. ASA announces the National African
Superseries, Daytona Beach, FL
The American Speed Association has announced a new racing series that will take place at the Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, Free State, South Africa. The National African SuperSeries (NAS) will feature a five-race series that will include the previously announced Free State 500k event in January. While the complete schedule will be announced at a later date, the series will include two events that will take place during the spring and fall seasons in South Africa. These events will be short sprint events culminating with the second annual Free State 500k event in 2011.
