When honing the cylinders, a torque plate mimics the stresses a cylinder head bolted to the engine will place on the cylinder bores. The bolts holding the head in place can actually distort the cylinder walls, but as long as the cylinders are honed with this distortion present, it can be corrected. View Related Article
