To ensure that idle is smooth and steady at around 1,500 rpm, Blake Carburetion drills two holes in the butterflies. This allows a minimal amount of air to flow through the butterflies while they are closed. If not, vacuum created by the engine can crack open the butterflies and disrupt the idle circuit.
