Here’s another area to make sure to check before you get too far in your rebuild. The pinion yoke on the right is the original after it has been cleaned up in the bead blaster. At first it looks good, but notice how the collar has an irregular shape worn into it (compare it to the good yoke on the left). This is from movement in the U-joint and tons of miles. The owner of the car probably blamed the driveline vibrationon “stupid American cars” but it really was a maintenance issue. For racing, it will need to be replaced.
