I wore a pair of the new Oakley Pit Boots around the pits at Daytona during the ARCA December test days and couldn't help but notice how comfortable they were for new shoes. This Pit Boot is designed for over-the-wall action as well as normal, everyday pit duties.
In my opinion, it would even make a decent heavy-duty driving shoe. The company literature states that it has "superior pedal feel" and its "mid-cut design allows for easy entry and secure fit for a comfortable driving experience." Sounds like a driving compatible shoe to me.
The boots come in both a fire-resistant version and a non-fire resis-tant version. The FR (fire resistant) Pit Boot is made of self extinguishing fire retardant Firewall suede outer material and tongue that are also stain and oil resistant.
The FR shoe is lined and filled with CarbonX that is also used as a filler for both fire protection and heat insulation. Even the laces are made of fire resistant Nomex.
The soles are composed of high NBS vulcanized rubber for good adhesion on slick surfaces and the toe cap is an abrasion-resistant micro-fiber material. The inner side of the sole is rounded enabling the wearer to make quick turns while running around the car during a pit stop. Conversely, the outer side of the sole is squared off to give extra support. This great shoe is available in black, sizes Men's 8-14 and half sizes except 12 1/2.
