Simpson’s newest head-and-neck restraint is the Hybrid Pro Slide. Engineered by Trevor Ashline with Safety Solutions Technology, the restraint has gained SFI 38.1 certification along with approval from both NASCAR and FIA. Ashline developed the Hybrid Pro Slide through extensive testing combining the patented Seatbelt Anchor System and the patent pending Side Stabilizing Gusset. The design minimizes the size giving you the first device not requiring seat modification. It’s constructed out of high-quality, carbon fiber, making it incredibly light, weighing in it at a mere 2 pounds. The weight coupled with its minimalistic design and compact size (it’s just under 7 inches), means that you barely notice it when you’re sitting in the car. We also liked the fact that the Hybrid Pro Slide allows you to move your head from side to side thanks to the tether system’s design.

That’s all well and good, but we had to take one for a testdrive to see for ourselves. Now we at Circle Track have tested just about every HNR out there and were anxious to try this one out. So on a recent test session out West, we donned the Hybrid Pro Slide and climbed into the car. One of the first things you will recognize is how easy you can get in and out of the race car with one of these one. The low profile design doesn’t get caught on rollbars, full containments seats, or other obstructions in the cockpit. The second thing you’ll notice are the bright yellow release cords that allow you to pull the safety pins out of the anchors. This is especially handy if you’re involved in an incident where you need to exit the vehicle quickly. Just yank on the release cords while nodding your head forward and you will be free from the anchors, allowing you to easily look down at your belts to release them. With all of that said, the most noticeable thing about the new Hybrid Pro Slide is that, well, you don’t actually notice it. Strapped in the race car, you will not realize that you have it on. It’s easily one of the most comfortable head-and-neck restraints we have ever worn.

Custom sizing is available and if your helmet is currently fitted for a HANS Device you can easily upgrade to a Simpson Head-and-Neck Restraint—Simpson hardware corresponds to the same location. It’s also available with optional dual-end fitting tether. The Hybrid Pro Slide carries an M.S.R.P. of $995, money well spent to save your neck.
