Mason began racing at the age of 16. He grew up around the tracks watching his father race and helping him work on his race car so it was no surprise that racing was something he couldn't wait to do. Three years ago his father, Jim Teague, stepped out of his Super Stock and began dedicating his time to help Mason pursue his dreams.  Mason started the 2007 season with a bang winning several races, and quickly gaining the respect of the other drivers.  He ended his first year winning Rookie of the Year and finishing tenth in points standings. With his rookie year behind him he couldn't wait for the next season to start.  Mason went out the opening night of the 2008 season and won the heat race and finished second in the feature race.  The next weekend he won both the heat and feature races and continued winning races throughout the season. Mason was in a tight chase for the championship in just his second year of racing and ended the 2008 season fourth in the point’s standings. Team Teague Racing worked hard during the off season to get ready for the 2009 season. First off I'm TJ and I’m new here. I had a few questions and if anyone has the time to help me out id really appreciate it. I have aluminum 417 Chevy. It is a bowtie block I believe. I recently sheared a rod. (Broke it near the bottom but did not spin the bearings) I am having trouble diagnosing what went wrong and I was also wondering if my block is repairable? When the rod got thrown it smacked the block and put two quarter sized holes in either side of the bock. The holes are below the compression (right where the pan bolts on) but there was water in the pan. I believe that it was due only to the fact that the remainder of the top rod. Curled up and cracked the cylinder sleeve. One question I have is: If I have this block welded and then re-sleeve it will that fully repair my block? I’m not sure about the whole water jacket system. Is it almost impossible to repair an engine that has water in the pan or would a resleeve take care of that? Another big question was: Why did this rod shear? It is a slightly used engine with only 160 laps on it. We had normal pressures and temps all the way up to the failure, and we had a 7200 rpm chip in the car (which I believe it never even hit. We warmed the car up and it ran GREAT until the last corner of the last lap. When, with no warning, the rod sheared. If anyone can help me determine what happened to my engine and if the block is salvageable, I sure would appreciate it. It may feed into what other's think. NASCAR is too invasive!! Every 'honey pot' has NASCARs finger in it. I would like to see NASCAR investigated under the RICO ACT, ie; organized crime. Why does three cars, from the same 'shop' and owner, have one that can lap the others without a little strange science going on?? Gibbs as an example. Why are all cars id'd by maker except Ford?? Will Chevy have to run their cars made in the USA next year? How do you 'soup up' a battery powered race car?? Just disgusted and curious. With that much spring rate in the rear on a metric chassis your roll angle in the rear would be very low, meaning you are forcing the right rear in the track. Which could actually be unloading lr and overloading rr. Just something to think about. PLEASE !</b><br />Typically the max front spring rate split is 200# (for stock type cars.) I am assuming you can't change suspension mounting points. Try lowering the front spring rate split, maybe down to 200#, or lower if a larger sway bar is used, and slightly increase the rear spring rate split. These cars tend to be difficult to get the mid-turn push out of it. For instance : A normal car tire has at 60dg Celcius a 1.5 times as high grip then at 20dg C, or something of that kind. But then for Summer and winter tires and race/tires. The "chase" is a joke. Identical cars is a joke. In the final few races of the season, ther're 30 cars literally cruising around because NASCAR instructed them to leave the "chase" contenders alone, once again, a joke. Real racing involves trying to win no matter when, where, or who you are competing against. I have been racing locally since 2001. Although car count is down due to the unstable economy, the fan base remains somewhat stable. It is not a linear curve comparing car count to fan count. My point is, "real" racing goes on every summer weekend across the country, and these "real" racing fans continue to enjoy the local excitement. NASCAR to racing is like WWE to wrestling. Although both can be entertaining at times, they are both simply shows to make money. Wheather it is the imiginary debris cautions to attempt to re-group the field towards the end of the race (depending of course on what big-name driver needs to catch up) or lap after identical lap on a cookie-cutter 2 mile boring speedway.
