Readers Tech Tips Powdercoating
Color It Light
When powdercoating or painting your chassis, choose a light color. Cracks from fatigue, stress, and collisions are a lot easier to find since they usually appear as a dark line or lines. Also, rust from an older crack will also be easier to find on a light colored chassis. Finding a crack before a failure can not only save a race, a lot of time and money fixing a wrecked car but most of all it can save you from get injured.

Readers Tech Tips Evac Tank Upright
Inexpensive Evac Tank Not only is this tank handy at the track but I've even used it at the marina to drain the oil from a boat engine.

You'll need one hose-fitting adapter, one tire deflator, one 1/4-inch pipe coupling, petcock, one 1/4-inch-to-1/8-inch pipe adapter, one 1/8-inch pipe-to-compression fitting, one locking air chuck, and three 5/16x21/2-inch bolts.

Readers Tech Tips Evac Tank
Now drill a hole large enough to accommodate your hose adapter. Depending on the adapter, you may need to weld a pipe coupling on it (I used a 1/4-inch nut). Next drill a 3/8-inch hole in the bottom of the tank and then weld in the 1/4-inch coupling and install a petcock here.

Readers Tech Tips Welding Evac Tank
Grind off three spots on the bottom of the Freon tank in order to weld the three 5/16x21/2-inch bolts on as legs. Install a clear plastic hose on the hose adapter, clip an air chuck onto the tire deflator, apply air and you have an inexpensive fluid evacuation tank!
