Do you have a GM rear end? Have you been troubled by the cross-pin bolt? Here's a solution to the "over-tightened, I can't get a socket on it" blues. Take an 8mm end wrench, the one I used had 6mm on the other end. Weld a quarter inch drive cut from a cheap nut runner into the 6mm end. Keep it as short as possible. With an 8mm socket, the cross-pin bolt can be broken loose and then backed out with the open end wrench. These are things that are lying around almost every shop and it works well for me.

After trying several styles of shaker screens, we decided to give a standard house furnace filter a try. Using our metal brake, we used some aluminum sheeting and made a 3/4 inch channel to fit on each side of the filter and used pop rivets to fasten it in. Depending on the style of frame/rollcage on the car, a stop may be necessary on the bottom also. The filter can and will suck in toward the radiator but a couple of vertical braces or a stiff screen between the filter and radiator will be enough to take care of that problem. A couple of tie-wraps at the top are more than enough to keep it in place. A $2 filter will keep a lot of dirt out of the radiator. We always keep a spare behind the seat in the truck and change out the filter every couple of races. This photo shows the amount of dirt stopped after one night of racing.
