Before attempting to unscrew those rusted or corroded Phillips head screws on your race car, airplane, or boat, fill the cross slots with valve grinding compound. Then press hard on the screwdriver and turn. You will be pleasantly surprised at the ease with which those screws can be removed. This will also work on some of the screws that have been partially stripped.

When disassembling junkyard Ford centersections for cleaning or gear replacement purposes, the input yoke can sometimes be rather stubborn. One simple solution is to use a harmonic balancer puller on the yoke. Use the inline puller holes with the diagonal yoke holes. The puller bolts will normally work with the nuts from the yoke U-bolts. Center the puller over the pinion shaft to eliminate binding. An impact wrench can be used on the puller to further aid in pulling off the yoke.

I have a tech tip that might make clean up after an oil change less messy and possibly less environmentally hazardous. Put used oil filters in a 16-ounce coffee can (or one of similar size). It slides right in and fits like a glove. Seal it with the plastic lid that came with the coffee can. This will make it easy to transport the used filter to the oil disposal site without spilling a drop or soiling your vehicle, tools, garage floor, and so on.
