This morning the temperature was in the high 20s when I rolled out of bed. While that may be balmy compared to where much of the racing world is nestled in the country, in Florida, 20s is frigid! Put your pitchforks down, weather is not the topic of this editorial.

Recently, the CT staff headed to the high banks of Daytona to watch some ARCA testing. That’s right, it’s almost racing season again! For the second consecutive season, Will Kimmel with be flying the Circle Track colors on his Roush Yates-powered Ford Fusion. So we took advantage of the short distance between Tampa and Daytona Beach and made the two and a half hour trip. The Kimmels had four cars (68A, 68B, 69A, and 69B, one of which is a new car the team procured just for Daytona) in the garage for the test. Aside from Will, six other drivers got behind the wheel over the three days test session. The “team” atmosphere was simply impressive. Everyone worked together for the common goal of everyone getting faster—especially with the young driver that were driving on the super speedway for the first time.

Chris Bailey Jr., Michael Lira, Scott Edwards, Sarah Elrod, Dale Shear, and Brian Finney all hit the track under the tutelage of Bill and Will Kimmel. From an outside perspective, it was nothing short of impressive to see how these drivers and their families were taken in like family. The team gave each driver the same attention Will gets each race weekend.

On track the cars looked great! It was very nice to see and hear cars on track again. The excitement got my blood flowing the way only racing can. The season will be starting before we know it, and hopefully 2014 is going to be a great year!
