One of the great benefits of working for Circle Track is getting the chance to travel the country a bit and all of the great racing that goes with it. I'm a gearhead. If it goes fast, I like it. In my travels this year, I've had the chance to check out some awesome racing. Another benefit is getting to document where we go and what we see. In the five years I have worked as an automotive journalist, I have become quite fond of the photography side of the job. Coming from a magazine that focused on drag racing and car features, shooting circle track racing was a bit of a change, and took a little while to get used to.

Recently, I was going through some photos from 2013, and I came across my photos from Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington. This was my first chance to hit a Tour stop with Bob, and I wish I had been able to be at more of them.

Evergreen is really cool racetrack, and the racing was incredible. I am a fan of Sprint Cars, but I had never seen them on asphalt before. Those guys are a little nutty. If memory serves me, we were told the Sprints were hitting upwards of 150 mph at the end of the straightaways on the big track…you have to have a screw loose to do that on purpose!

But in all seriousness, I had just as much fun shooting the Sprints and Midgets as I did watching them. And in true photographer fashion, they even threatened to throw me out of the track for shooting in an area I was not supposed to be in. (My apologies to the lady working the gate, I was not trying to make you mad!) For the record, I got some really cool shots before the track officials came over yelling!

So now it's time to gear up for 2014. I'm hoping to get to as many races as possible this year. I know I want to go to Eldora to watch the Trucks, we'll be back the Battle At The Beach, the Topless 100 would be fun, and I'd really like to get to the Knoxville Nationals. Hopefully, when I look back at 2014, I'll have ever better pictures to write about!
