* Early Years: Met Alan Kulwicki at a Wisconsin track in 1977. Began volunteering on Kulwicki's Late Model team.
* First paying job racing was with Jerry Betterman of All Star Racing.*Worked as a tire changer on an ASA team but gave it up because he felt concentrating on his skills as a machinist would be the best way to break into Winston Cup.
"I was talking to Alan [Kulwicki] at the track, and he asked me what I was doing the following weekend. I said, 'Nothing,' and he said, 'Then come to the races with us.' So that's how I got started."
* Early Years: Brother raced Late Models. Helped out in the shop wherever possible.* Joined a local race shop after graduating from high school, where he learned fabrication.* Joined Cicci-Welliver Racing in 1998. Says the team had torn up some cars and needed extra fabricators.
"Five years from now I hope I'm still doing fabrication in a shop somewhere. I don't think I want to be on the road too much longer, though."
* Early Years: First involvement in racing was at a local dirt track in Texas. Helped whoever was willing to take it so he could get his feet wet in racing.* Moved to North Carolina in 1994 specifically to get a job in Stock Car racing.* Hired by T and L Engines tearing down race engines and "just moved up the chain" to his current position: engine tuner for Eel River Racing's #27 car.
"What I think the average fan doesn't realize about working in Winston Cup racing is just how much you work. I average about 60 hours a week, and that's normal for anybody involved in a race team."
