As our Tough Tow Truck continues its journey of change, we turn to its graphical look. The objective is to give this street-driven beauty a race appearance and help us keep track of what is going on inside the powerplant.
To do that, we turned to Chad Martin and Daniel Barnes of The Decal Source, a Greensboro, North Carolina company, to develop a design that met our race criteria.
Martin and Barnes supplied us with several great graphic concepts, and we did a bit of mixing and matching to arrive at our final look, which we will show you in the December 2000 issue. Until then, we elected to publish a few of the designs we had to choose from.

Information, PleaseLast month we saw how Hans deBot of deBotech in Cornelius, North Carolina, created a gauge-panel template from which a carbon-fiber panel would be made. Here is the result of that process. As you can see, the panel and the Point Zero gauges definitely provide a race look.
The gauge cluster panel is mounted on the transmission tunnel and is nestled just below the entertainment and environment controls. This location provides a convenient location for the necessary wiring.
The panel was formed with one side wider than the other, so the gauges are at an angle. This provides easy viewing; the driver gets oil pressure, oil temperature, and water temperature readings with a quick glance. In addition, the gauges are lit, so it's easy to take readings during night driving as well.
