AFCO opened the PRI show with a special announcement. Racers who use thenew M2 shocks during the '06 season could stand to gain a little extraat the payoff. Under the company program, certain high-profile raceswill be identified as bonus races, where a winning racer could receiveadditional cash. Free Money
When you go to the SEMA show in Las Vegas, you try to keep from losingyour shirt at the casino. If it happened, Bully Dog Technologies wascoming to the rescue. The truck accessory company gave away thousands ofT-shirts during the show. Through the course of the show, Bully Dogwould send scouts onto the show floor. If you were wearing a Bully DogT-shirt, you would receive $100. The exact amount of cash given away isunknown, but it was in the thousands.
Crane Backs Hooters
Beginning in 2006, USAR Hooters Pro Cup racers will have a requiredignition system. The Crane HI-6RL ignition and PS92N coil will beutilized. In a companion announcement, the series has announced atwo-year sponsorship agreement with Crane.
Stewart Warner Steps Up
At the PRI show in December, officials from Stewart Warner Performanceunveiled the 2006 contingency program, including a return to the NHRAprofessional divisions and an exclusive gauge program in the ARCA RE/MAXSeries. The ARCA program will offer cash and product contingence for theRE/MAX Series and the sanction's Lincoln Welders Truck Series.

Simpson Performance Products is now an authorized distributor andfactory-trained installer for the HANS Device. The cooperative effortpresents a wider platform for the head-and-neck restraint, created byracer Jim Downing and Dr. Robert Hubbard. As part of the effort, the"Simpson Safe Racer Program" will offer extended payment terms for thepurchase of a HANS Device.
NASCAR Engine
There were plenty of questions for Clem Droste, who took up his stationbeside the engine in the spacious NASCAR booth at the PRI show. Theengine is targeted for use in the Busch North Series and Grand NationalWest Series in mid-2006. It is based on Chevy LS1 block and heads foreasy availability and will carry a price tag of $15,000. Tests haverevealed 600 hp at 364 cid, and it completed a phase of on-track testingjust days before the show. Racers will be able to put it together, witha list of spec parts to be determined.
Star Search
One of the attractions of the trade shows includes bumping into racerswho, shall we say, are well into their 15 minutes of fame. There wereliterally dozens of racers walking around the shows. Our cameras caughtKyle Busch signing autographs at the Quaker State booth while ErinCrocker was a guest speaker at the Bosch press conference.
