Mark Martin * Martinsville Speedway * Race No. 8It was a question of survival for everyone but Mark Martin, who seemed to glide unscathed through the final 64 laps of the caution-filled, unholy mess at Martinsville. Martin's win was his first this year-joining winners Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, Bobby Labonte, Ward and Jeff Burton, and both Dale Earnhardts.*Winner: Goody's Body Pain 500
NewsmakersTire TroubleNASCAR ruled that teams be required to pick up right-side tires immediately following every pit stop or suffer a penalty. The new rule, implemented because of an unusually high incidence of stray tire mishaps, was to take effect beginning with the Body Pain 500 at Martinsville.
Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-ChangesNASCAR amended its mandatory standard-issue shock rule for the next superspeedway race. Instead of issuing four shocks and springs to each team, as it did in Daytona, NASCAR officials will issue only rear shocks and springs at Talladega. This allows crews to more finely tune the front of their racers, get them closer to the ground, and find that winning combination.
Quick StatSince the #25 Michael Holigan.com Chevrolet, piloted by Jerry Nadeau, debuted in the Daytona 500, the number of weekly visitors to the company's Web site has more than doubled.
