Racing engines require topnotch oiling systems for you to finish up front, which is someth
The oiling system for your race engine, whether it's a wet- or dry-sump system, is almost always a custom assembly that must work 100 percent of the time or you risk having your engine hurl its guts onto the pavement. If you are shopping for oiling-system equipment, especially dry-sump systems, check out Peterson Fluid Systems.
In business for more than 17 years, Peterson has always had a solid reputation and background in the racing field. New owner Bill Morten, with more than 30 years of experience, has guided the company to the next level in design, manufacturing, quality, and customer service. Many new products have been brought to the market and existing products redesigned to provide a wide variety of oil- and fuel-system assemblies.
Peterson is probably best known for its gerotor dry-sump pumps. The latest design, the Pro Series dry-sump pumps, is machined from solid billet aluminum and features ball-bearing supports at both ends. The bodies incorporate O-ring seals and tubular dowels for accurate alignment. The top feature, though, is the internal scavenge manifold, which helps to create a lower profile making installation much easier. As an added feature, the pressure "in" fitting is located at the rear of the pump in most applications. During its development, the Pro Series pump in a five-stage combination pulled 22 in-hg of vacuum during dyno tests. This is the type of vacuum the Winston Cup boys are using to eliminate windage losses in the their engines. This freed-up horsepower makes a difference at the rear wheels.
The Pro Series dry-sump pumps are an advance in dry-sump systems, because you can order the spline drives from Peterson and don't have to go through the develop-your-own-front-drive-from-thin-air routine. Those who have done this know the frustration of getting the drive pieces located, purchased, and on the front of the engine properly.
The Pro Series is only the tip of the iceberg on this voyage, because Peterson is developing new products every day. If its latest series of products is any indication, the next time you are creating or modifying your oiling system or fuel system, Peterson will have what you need. The company is flush with new, innovative products that will allow you to get up and running quickly with a minimum of hassle. That should give you more time to go bash it up Saturday night.
