Peterson is probably best known for its gerotor dry-sump pumps. The latest design, the Pro Series dry-sump pumps, is machined from solid billet aluminum and features ball-bearing supports at both ends. The bodies incorporate O-ring seals and tubular dowels for accurate alignment. The top feature, though, is the internal scavenge manifold, which helps to create a lower profile making installation much easier. As an added feature, the pressure "in" fitting is located at the rear of the pump in most applications. During its development, the Pro Series pump in a five-stage combination pulled 22 in-hg of vacuum during dyno tests. This is the type of vacuum the Winston Cup boys are using to eliminate windage losses in the their engines. This freed-up horsepower makes a difference at the rear wheels.
The Pro Series dry-sump pumps are an advance in dry-sump systems, because you can order the spline drives from Peterson and don't have to go through the develop-your-own-front-drive-from-thin-air routine. Those who have done this know the frustration of getting the drive pieces located, purchased, and on the front of the engine properly.
The Pro Series is only the tip of the iceberg on this voyage, because Peterson is developing new products every day.
