3 Timing was set at 36 degrees BTDC with the engine running at 5,000 rpm. Dorton recommends always setting timing with the engine at the beginning of the rpm range it will see on the racetrack. As we’ve seen from out tests, ignition timing can vary by a couple of degrees in the same cylinder depending on the rpm, so it’s always a good idea to set the timing inside the rpm range you will be racing.
