One of the most taken for granted products on many a short tracker's car is the starter. They are often a second thought, one that comes to mind only after a failure. But a starter failure is the last thing that any one of us wants to experience. And thanks to Quarter Master's new Hi-Torque Ultra-Duty Starter we don't have to any longer.
Every hand-built Hi-Torque Ultra-Duty starter starts with top-quality Hitachi components and features heavy-duty solenoid and ball bearing construction to withstand higher engine temperatures and more extreme operating conditions found in racing. The solenoid plunger is chamfered to assure that the in-and-out movement will not bind. This free movement of the plunger is mandatory for reliable starting. In addition, the end of the solenoid spring is sanded to ensure that it is flat and will seat accurately.
The coil unit boasts a fiber packing ring that serves as a barrier between the coil case and armature brush unit providing assurance that electric current from the coil brush unit to the coil case is eliminated, thus preventing starter failure.
Each armature brush unit is modified by elevating the copper wiring up from the base of the unit. This small but important step ensures that no contact of electricity will occur to the base, thereby eliminating electric arcing that could cause operational failure. The addition of a chamfer to the edges of the armature brush unit further eliminates any sharp edge that might do damage to coil wiring. Finally, each gear case is micrometer-checked before the final step of applying Loctite to all screw attachments on the starter.
Ultra-Duty Starters also include gear reduction for increased ring gear torque and 1.4kw of power output. The adapter mounts are CNC-machined for precise flywheel fit and the unique pinion gear with a lightweight head enables much tighter tolerance in run-out, which makes for a highly efficient flywheel engagement.
These American-built, fully blueprinted gear reduction starters also come with a dyno sheet (below), and are fully rebuildable and available for all brands of bellhousings and mounting configurations.
