Engine Fasteners Bolt Stretch Gauge
This is the best way to measure fastener preload with a bolt stretch gauge. In most cases with connecting rod bolts, you want the fastener to stretch between 0.005 and 0.007 inch. Also, measure the bolts whenever you tear down the engine. If the bolt has stretched 0.001 or more from its original length when it is in a relaxed state, that bolt has failed and should be discarded. View Related Article
