Pictured is a breakaway of a cooling fin from a Fluidyne radiator core. As you can see, cooling fins aren't smooth. They are actually louvered to increase surface area and cooling. If you try to clean your radiator with a high-pressure stream of water, even though the fins look OK on the outside, the water can close these louvers and reduce the radiator's efficiency.
