Note: The purpose of this illustration is to show how valve loft changes as engine speed increases. It can be seen that the point of peak loft, compared to actual maximum lobe lift, varies not only in amount but at points not symmetrical with the design lobe lift. While some cam manufacturers assert benefits from some amount of loft, this sort of valve motion cannot be considered consistent with lobe design and an indication of "varying" valve motion.
