Because of the super-thin valve stem diameters, there isn't enough width for the roller tip of the rocker arm to move across. To fix this, engine builders use lash caps which sit on top of the valve stem and provide a greater surface area. These caps are also used, obviously enough, to adjust valve lash, and so it now becomes important to keep a variety on hand. View Related Article
