Sway Bar Rating Techniques Prototype
On the DP car, being a prototype means that the systems are necessarily made very compact and the sway bars' designs can be varied and somewhat odd. With the links attached to rockers, linking the wheel and spring running at odd angles from a top view, and attached to bendable blades at the ends of the bar, we can count many variables and non-linear functions as the car rolls. Calculating the influence of the sway bar becomes almost impossible without the wheel rate measurement method.

Sway Bar Rating Techniques Blade Thicknesses
The blades on the DP car can be turned to provide varying amounts of resistance to bending. This combines with the bending of the tubing to produce many combinations of rate. We tested each setting of the blades, different blade thicknesses and different sized sway bars.

Sway Bar Rating Techniques Sway Bars
In the stock car world, sway bars are getting larger. The use of stiffer bar rates means we need stiffer arms to connect the bar to the lower control arms. The old-style aluminum arms are just not strong enough and will bend, greatly influencing the overall rate and influence of the bar. We proved that in tests done almost 10 years ago. The steel arm in the rear of the photo is best.

Sway Bar Rating Techniques Attachment Link
Make sure your attachment link at the right lower control arm is perpendicular to both the lower arm and the sway bar arm. This link, when angled, can bind up and cause problems with the function of the sway bar.

Sway Bar Rating Techniques Solid Links
We installed solid links in all four corners of the car in place of the shocks. Make sure your link is strong enough to support the weight of that corner. Using opposite threaded Heims helps us to adjust the lengths easily.
